Rapid Response Pipe Repair

Introduction

At ARK, we take pride in our ability to respond swiftly and efficiently to critical infrastructure challenges. When the Ministry of Defence (MOD) faced an urgent underground pipe failure at a key site, our team was called in to provide a fast, reliable solution—ensuring minimal disruption to the site operations.

Our Response

Upon receiving the request, our groundworks team swiftly mobilised, arriving on-site fully equipped to assess and address the issue.

Site Investigation & Risk Assessment – Our engineers conducted a thorough assessment, using ground-penetrating radar and Cat & genny survey to locate and diagnose the fault.
Controlled Excavation & Pipe Repair – We carefully excavated the affected area, ensuring no damage to surrounding infrastructure. Our team then carried out a precision repair using ductile iron pipe work & fittings.
Collaboration & Compliance – Working closely with MOD representatives, we ensured all operations met security and safety standards.
Rapid Reinstatement & Testing – Once the repair was complete, we reinstated the ground, conducted visual inspection, and confirmed full functionality of the water supply system.

Pipe Refurbishment Work

The Challenge

This project involved the replacement of aging underground pipework at Rothesay, outlet tank, where shutting down the supply was not an option. The existing infrastructure required an upgrade to prevent leaks and ensure long-term reliability. The key challenges included:

Minimising Disruption – Ensuring continuous service to businesses and residents on Rothesay.
Working with under pressure systems – Replacing sections of pipework without depressurising the network.
Precision Installation – Using specialised fittings to integrate new pipes into the existing system.

Our Solution: Under-Pressure Drilling & Fittings

Under-pressure drilling (or hot tapping) allows us to modify and replace pipework while the system remains fully operational. This technique is particularly valuable for water, gas, and industrial pipeline networks where service interruptions are not feasible.
Site Assessment & Planning – Our team conducted a full survey to determine the optimal points for intervention, ensuring a seamless integration of the new pipeline.
Under-Pressure Drilling (Hot Tapping) – Using specialist drilling equipment, we created controlled access points into the existing pressurised pipeline. This allowed for new pipe connections without shutting off the flow.
Installation of High-Performance Fittings – We utilised mechanical under-pressure fittings to securely join the new pipe sections, ensuring a leak-free and durable solution.
Testing & Quality Assurance – Once the new pipework was installed, we conducted thorough pressure testing and inspections to confirm system integrity and compliance with industry standards.

The Outcome

Our under-pressure drilling and fitting solution successfully replaced the outdated pipework while keeping the system fully operational. The project was completed on time and within budget, with no service disruptions to businesses, residents, or industrial facilities.
