GLENDEVON

Introduction

The Glendevon Project presented a unique set of challenges for Arks delivery team, requiring specialist skills and precise execution. As the Construction Manager overseeing the project, my role involved at times long periods of discussions to de risk the project, overseeing a large-scale excavation, installation of 800mm diameter pipe work & fittings, and the risky task of connecting to a live water main through under pressure drilling equipment & tee saddle connection points.

Solutions

  • Advanced Excavation Techniques: We used ground penetrating radar (GPR), Cat & Genny's while excavating & as built drawings provided by the client to manage the large-scale excavation,

  • Custom Pipe Fittings for the 800mm diameter pipe work, fittings & the specialised drilling equipment

  • Carefully agreed under pressure sequence of work, Installation & emergency contingency plan

  • Rigorous safety measures were in place during the live water main connection phase. This involved detailed sequence of work, risk assessments, close collaboration & sign off with water  authorities.

Conclusion

The Glendevon Project was successfully completed within the specified timeframe and budget. The installation of the new pipe work, and the connection to the live water main were executed flawlessly. The project exceeded our clients expectations showcasing our level of planning detail and our commitment to health and safety standards while carrying out the work.

Solutions

  • Gabion Basket Engineering: Our project engineer analysed soil conditions and designed a foundation system that incorporated gabion baskets. The baskets provided stability to the landing area

  • Brushed Concrete finish: The brushed concrete finish was achieved to ensure the surface met both aesthetic and functional requirements.

  • Integrated Handrail: The galvanised steel handrails were integrated into the concrete structure, enhancing safety without compromising the visual appeal of the landing area.

Outcome

The Glen Douglas Project culminated in the creation of a  practical retained landing area that not only met but exceeded client expectations. The combination of gabion baskets, brushed concrete finish, and galvanised steel handrails showcased the ingenuity and adaptability of our team.
